What is Rainies Foster Closet, Inc.?
Rainie’s Foster Closet, Inc. was established in September 2019 to provide FREE clothing, essentials, and gear to eligible Foster/Kinship families supporting children and young adults.
We are a 100% volunteer-run, donation-based nonprofit organization (501c3) dedicated to serving our Foster/Kinship communities. Our operations rely entirely on generous contributions—both financial and in-kind—as well as grants and fundraising efforts.
Rainie’s mission is to offer immediate and ongoing support to children in Foster/Kinship care, guided by our core belief that every child deserves love, respect, and kindness at home and within their community.
After all, “It Takes a Village…”
Founding of Rainie’s,
“Our Story”
Sisters Jessica Dybdahl (President) and Alicia Moeller (Vice President) founded Rainie’s Foster Closet in September 2019, inspired by their personal journey through foster care. This is their story—and Rainie’s.
In June 2018, Alicia (having no children of her own at that time) made the decision to pursue foster parenting with intent of adopting. In February 2019, Alicia received a request from her agency for immediate placement of two sisters Ages 2 and 7. Like many foster parents faced with emergency placements, Alicia had no time to gather clothing and supplies before the girls arrived ‘home’. With the support of family and friends, she made it work! But the experience revealed a critical gap in community resources.
Determined to make a difference, Alicia and Jessica launched Rainies Foster Closet, Inc. in September 2019, committed to ensuring no foster family would face that kind of scramble alone again.
Fast forward to September 2025, six years after its founding, Rainie’s outgrew its original home at St. Peter’s UCC on Oliver Street. The organization relocated to a larger space at 100 Ridge Road in North Tonawanda, within the Twin Cities Community Outreach building. This expansion enables Rainie’s to serve more families with greater efficiency and impact while marking a powerful new chapter in Rainie’s mission to support Foster/Kinship families with dignity, compassion, and community care.
Rainie’s Foster Closet, “Our Namesake”
Rainie is the grandmother of our cofounders, Jessica Dybdahl and Alicia Moeller – Lorraine ‘Rainie’ Campbell. Grandpa Leo Campbell lovingly referred to his wife of 60 years as Rainie and it stuck! “Very good, Rainie,” was the complement paid from husband to wife after every meal served, whether it was truly good or not! Rainie’s Foster Closet was named in tribute to both Grandma and Grandpa – the people they are and were, the values they exude, the examples they provide, the home they created welcoming ALL (family, friends and even some foes, strangers, young and old). Their sense of community volunteering time and support to those in need, no challenge ever to big or small for them to fix! Rainie’s mission to provide all Foster and Kinship children love, respect, and kindness was founded in the example and love of both ‘Rainie’ and Leo Campbell.
